Other Interests

I care about LOTS of things outside of advocacy work—so, I am going to share some of these.  Being “green” is something that really matters to me.  When I was in middle school, I did “environmental bulletins” during morning announcements.  I would research a topic, write up a blurb, and then read it through the intercom system—to raise awareness of nature.  (Plus, I liked announcing over the loudspeakers.)  I’m especially fascinated by insects and have kept a little cricket-farm almost every summer.  Here is a cool YouTube clip of a wind-powered sculpture that mimics aspects of an insect’s body:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSKyHmjyrkA&feature=email

And here is another share:  I love music and one of my favorite things to do is to sing in choir—my school has an amazing choir program with hundreds of kids being involved in 9 different performance groups!  One of my favorite composers right now is
Eric Whitacre—he is the guy who’s been putting together virtual choirs, blending the voices of as many as 2000 singers from everywhere on this planet.  Here is a clip of his first virtual choir (with only 185 voices—but this piece is one of my favorites.)  www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7o7BrlbaDs

Also, birds are one of my forever passions—one of my goals is to own an Amazon parrot like the one that I have drawn for you below.   I am inspired by this amazing soprano who can sing like the birds of the Amazon—she is a descendant of Incan royalty and grew up in Peru, imitating jungle birds around her home:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KprLT-JxPY  (Just close your eyes and listen—the video footage can be distracting, it is from the 1950’s.)
