During this time of “virtual living,” we’ve all been desperately hungry for the energy and lift that in-person, live performance can provide. And Benjamin has been in desperate need of something meaningful to counteract his current struggle with covid-driven anxiety and perseverative thinking. The perfect answer: a LIVE garden concert!
Benjamin spent part of July and August preparing a special 1-hour program of entertainment, which he then presented on the sloping lawns between our direct neighbors’ homes. Masks and social distancing were required—safe entertainment for all!
Benjamin’s joy in singing (while accompanying himself on the ukulele) brought together a variety of styles and moods: Hawaiian, golden oldie, pop. In addition, he presented spoonerism comedy, musical theater songs with a special guest (his co-star in numerous musicals with Tapestry Theater Co.), and a choreographed poi-swing routine. A neighborhood duo (clarinet and English horn) opened the show.
Sultry summer heat, shady trees and shrubbery…Benjamin loved sharing the fruits of his labors and reconnecting with the many friends and neighbors who’ve been hidden away for these many months of quarantine and required reticence.
